Minimalist Routine for Rosacea
When rosacea is flaring the skin barrier can be severely compromised even the gentlest products can sting. I advise removing all active ingredients from your skin care routine and just using a light moisturiser and sunscreen.
A simple routine:
- AM: Rinse face with lukewarm water only. If necessary, use a small amount of a very gentle, non-foaming cleanser. Apply a simple, fragrance-free barrier repair moisturiser and a mineral sunscreen.
- PM: Cleanse with the gentle cleanser to remove sunscreen. Apply the same simple moisturiser. If you are able to tolerate a prescription topical treatment suchas Soolantra or Azelaic acid this can be used, however when things are very active these may not be tolerated. Once the skin feels calm, comfortable, and less reactive, you can slowly reintroduce other products one at a time.
In some cases the flare is very severe and due to skin sensitivity the best strategy is tablet antibiotic treatment to reduce inflammation from within without irritating the skin surface.
